Is livestock producers’ interest in silvopasture related to their operational perspectives or characteristics?

Livestock producers’ operational perspectives and characteristics are known to be associated with silvopasture adoption, but findings in the literature mixed contradictory. To study whether or more closely relate interest, 307 livestock producers enrolled cost-share programs Virginia, United States of America were surveyed. One hundred thirty-nine responded (rate = 45%). Interest was measured using a Likert-type ordinal scale. Respondents reported following characteristics: size hectares, type number livestock, primary secondary occupation. Twelve scales used measure perspectives: financial emphasis, cultural importance, attitudes pertaining diversification trees. Multivariate cluster methods group respondents into two classification sets, one based on other perspectives. Tests for significant differences interest between classifications each set conducted non-parametric Kruskal–Wallis rank sums (α 0.05). Silvopasture differed significantly among perspectives, not characteristics. Cross-tabulations sets Cramer’s V test indicated that unrelated. Findings suggest cuts across operation is tied particularly views related diversification. Technical transfer stakeholder engagement should focus matching practice regardless scale scope.
